RYA/MCA Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster |

This course covers the prescribed syllabus for the award of the RYA/MCA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Shore based Certificate. Qualification for one or other of the practical certificates depends upon your seagoing experience but the shorebased course is identical for both.

It is a natural progression from the Day Skipper course and is therefore not suitable for beginners, nor for those who have experience in boats but who do not possess knowledge of navigation.

We concentrate on the knowledge of technique that will be needed to become a safe, competent skipper offshore. Chartwork is studied to an advanced level (including electronic aids) and all aspects of tidal calculations receive thorough coverage. Safety is stressed throughout with emphasis on collision regulations, interpreting weather forecasts, pilotage in fog and safe boat handling. Planning and skippering of a simulated passage, from customs clearance to emergency procedures concludes the course at an internationally recognised level of competence.
