RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Ocean |

This course covers the prescribed syllabus for the award of the RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Ocean Shorebaed Certificate.

Out of sight of land and the comforting presence of navigational marks, we have to rely on our own resources and electronic aids to find our position and maintain our intend ocean route. In looking at both these aspects this course concentrates on astro-navigation by observation of the sun, moon, stars and planets. No advanced mathematics is involved nor is the possession of a sextant essential.

The recognition of the stars and navigational planets is explained together with the use of a sextant and the corrections to be made to its measurements. Electronic instrumentation, now in everyday use, is a vital part of the course. Meteorology and climatology, and the planning of ocean passages, complete the syllabus.
